Why call it bodywork? - Why not just call it equine massage??
The answer is pretty easy...equine bodywork goes beyond massage, it integrates a range of massage modalities as well as energy work.
Equine bodywork can help your horse acheive overall wellbeing and peak performance, whether you ride competitively or just for fun.
When I'm working with a horse I start with an evaluation, identifying areas of tension and stress that need to release. During the remainder of the session I intuitively blend elements of equine massage, myofacial release, craniosacral therapy, Reiki and other energy work. A bodywork session focuses on musculoskeletal problems and overall wellness.
To attain the best results its important to me that the horse remains calm and responsive throughout the session. I use a light touch and work on a subtle level to release stress and tension and encourage the horse's wellbeing.
How do I know when a horse is releasing tension? It's pretty easy, signs include:
- licking and chewing
- blinky eyes
- cocked back leg
- and my favorite, big yawns.
